I have been working as a Clinical Research Coordinator since obtaining my under-graduate degree in Health Information Management. I joined the Department of Radiation Oncology at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with the role of designing and implementing a national longitudinal, multicentre study of physiology and health related quality of life in 200 men with prostate cancer requiring hormone therapy. I then went on to design and implement a Feasibility Study and a Phase III International Randomised Controlled Trial involving intra-operative radiotherapy for early breast cancer (the TARGIT-A Trial). This work was made possible by several grants I was involved in. Results of the TARGIT-A trial have been published, and my current research (and PhD) focus is on finalising sub-studies of the TARGIT-A trial including Patient Preference, Cosmetic Outcome and Quality of Life which aim to assist with the translation of the results of the TARGIT-A trial into clinical practice. I find working in clinical trials as a researcher and as a manager of the trials unit very rewarding, always looking forward to how we can improve the lives and treatment journey of our patients.
